@paulbaumgart reputation is easy to manipulate. Regulation will always have its place

.@theDiverge Certainly. But we can shift from pessimistic regulation to optimistic regulation, in the sense of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimistic_concurrency_control …

@paulbaumgart goal of net based trade shouldn't be freeing markets but allaying scarcity. Rep is exclusionary and thus augments scarcity

@theDiverge One reputation isn't particularly dependent on other reputations. Trustworthiness is a pretty objective standard. Not zero-sum.

@paulbaumgart in a post-scarcity world, I think we can agree but rep systems won't bring us there. Instead they'll reinforce stratification

@theDiverge They're not incompatible: ~Nozick on the global scale, ~Bookchin on the local scale, where local is not necessarily geographical

@paulbaumgart the new network society simply means the coolest kids still get invited to all the best parties.

@theDiverge Social status is splintering. People who don't get invited to the cool parties are realizing they can just throw their own.

@theDiverge I know the kind of status anxiety you're talking about, but I'm pretty sure it's just a temporary artifact of globalization.
