Thinkers who do accept that past of Marxism typically put it down to it being the nature of the historical dialectic. Problem being that the hermeneutic and metaphyiscal arguments involved are more to do with arguing with other Marxists that outside observers have little bearing.

E.g. Badiou compared the political experiments of Marxism with Fermats Theorm which remained unsolved for 350 years. Point being that while previous attempts had failed they still yielded useful results and opened up new avenues despite never being the correct one though.

That's it really. Its from one of his introductory texts, The Communist Hypothesis. You would accept if you were already agreed with Marxism otherwise it is more confusing than convincing. How are historical facts and events similar to mathematical truths?

Ofc Badiou’s also the dude who dismissed any talk of communism’s failures with “Leave the weighing of the results to the accountants”. It’s almost like this talk about experiments and learning is disingenuous...
