New controversial opinion to toy with: ackchually, teenage pregnancy is good. Most teenage hours are wasted, either not learning or learning things you'll never use. Women aged 21+ typically have jobs and are doing useful things. Should have kids when opportunity cost is lowest.

But: (a) We do umpteen other things to make childbearing harder in general. These are presumably felt hardest by those with fewest resources. (b) Teenage pregnancy correlates with low socioeconomic status, and this status is pretty heritable.

In the US it seems perceived opportunity cost outweighs everything else. Lower prospects incentivize early motherhood, is my sense. And yeah, it’s probably still a bad idea.
