Houellebecq in 'The Elementary Particles.'pic.twitter.com/dMuj2ppOKe
From a Paris Review interview shortly after this bookpic.twitter.com/smwZmuFeiJ
Since Houellebecq I haven't had the pleasure of finding any other contemporary voice of jarring realistic truth about our age that can quite measure up to his.
60s technological/consumer society devalued practical wisdom of elders, basis of elder status vis a vis youth since time immemorial. It’s a seismic event in our cultural evolution. And Houellebecq seems like the only major writer to have really squared up to it.
