First of all, we should start the discussion by recognizing that Gates/Macron/elite westerners who are "just asking questions" about whether, ya know, maybe there are too many Africans, are participating in an inherently racist and colonialist line of argument.

This whole phenomenon where a bunch of white guys get together and decide how many Africans there should be is.... wrong? We should not do this. Population must be taken as a "given" or a "good." There is never a population problem.

I generally agree with your line on fertility questions but I think: a) It's very possible there are other motives besides pure racism by Macron et al. b) Odd to tout given you've complained about precisely this bad faith being deployed against you when writing on pro-natalism.

Goldstone's theories on population imbalances seem very convincing

Perhaps. I just think Lyman is going to get slammed as a woman-hating theocrat who wants them to stay in the kitchen and pump out babies all day when he writes a tepid pro-natalist piece in the New York Times again. And it'll be total BS, but he has played his hand in this game.

The issue with macron is the kind of rhetoric he used can be counter-productive, as explained here, the problem is imbalance, and he needs to promote fertility at homehttps://www.foreignaffairs.com/articles/2010-01-01/new-population-bomb …

If the electorate is aging and the proportion of females rising, maybe he’s just ahead of the curve...
