I disagree. If not we wouldn't have gotten Brexit, Trump or EU populists. Media, Obama and EU politicians advocated woke policies. Elites can be ahead slightly but when as today they go haywire (intersectional theory: "woke") = backlash.

I think you misunderstood what I meant. I think conservative elites lump together immigration (which legitimately is politically super toxic) with other SJW stuff like gender pronouns which annoy conservative intellectuals but don't actually have any real electoral salience.

It was a mistake for progressives themselves to convert liberal immigration into a social justice imperative - but I guess if priorities and exclusions are frowned upon, it’s the one good political strategy you got.
