You could think this raises a question about the plausibility of the finding. Does it seem independently plausible that people 65+ and people 18-23 are against political correctness to roughly the same degree?https://twitter.com/yascha_mounk/status/1050032397046173696 …

Age barely predicts how Americans feel about political correctness. Even among 24 - 29 year olds, the group most receptive to political correctness, 74% think it’s a problem. And among the youngest, those below 24, the number goes back up to 79%! pic.twitter.com/sHyyrM7UCe

Another interesting finding from the study: 82% of all Americans agree that “hate speech” is a problem in the United States today.

Poll: As you may have noticed, bad things have been in the news a lot lately. Are you opposed to bad things, or are you in favor?

I’ll be deeply disappointed in my followers if this doesn’t get the result that roughly 80% are opposed to bad things, 20% in favor.

15 examples of how 20% of Americans will believe anything (or at least will answer poll questions as if they do).https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.pastemagazine.com/articles/2017/10/15-examples-of-how-one-in-five-americans-will-beli.html …

To connect the dots: “political correctness” means an objectionable form of behavior, by definition. So, asking whether political correctness is a problem is akin to asking whether objectionable behavior is a problem. Of course it is! Who is in favor of *objectionable* behavior?!

Not sure about this one... I've seen many people say they think political correctness is equivalent to politeness, and that it's a good thing.

Right, there are a few people trying to take back the term, but that’s a small movement and not anything that’s filtered down outside of elite circles. Likely to be higher educated, wealthier, etc. And they make that push recognizing that people widely use “pc” as pejorative.

It’s an inept rhetorical strategy, calling all normal people rude, when everyone knows people - even the very bigoted - usually try to be polite.

People sort of try, here and there, to be polite. Setting aside political correctness, I would not say: the one thing that is true of most people is they are very polite.
