I mean... no... but if it turned out people generally made that association I’d find it pretty odd and hope that folk would study how it came to be.

It gets even more complex: 1) it wasn't an intentional, scripted movie. it was created from scenes improvised, then cut from the movie "Smoke", which were later assembled into its own 'sequel' movie https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_in_the_Face …

2) the story for "Smoke" was itself basically a very thin Paul Auster short story expanded into a feature film by throwing lots of characters together and seeing what happened. Its better to watch Smoke first, then BITF as chaser, because it expands on all the same characters
