The political faction labeled “Liberals”.

Reminding people that it has been over sixty years since Kenneth Arrow proved mathematically that the right-left spectrum is an illusion to own the libs.
-
Some people argue that liberalism is sort of orthogonal to left/right. Bertrand Russel sort of characterized it that way. He seemed to describe it as sort of an attitude that could be left or right.

Pretty sure the liberal tradition beat Arrow to the idea that the political spectrum suffered from compression loss. Arrow just did it in the language of autism

No way, dude. The fact that there's no good election system- even abstracting away all physical reality- was a huge shock. I mean, it was such a shock that people continue to refuse to believe it.
-
That’s already implicitly assumed in liberal tradition and madisonian thought. Good election system is taken to mean, “good compared to what?”
-
Well, it's one thing to assert something as a matter of philosophical principle. Proving it mathematically on minimal assumptions is a whole 'nother game. I mean, I agree in some sense Arrow just vindicated Hobbes, in the sense that QM just vindicated Lucretius and Democritus.
