I'm interested in why you think this is. Japan has so many positives from a lifestyle perspective (low crime, food, longevity), seems like a great place for someone w/ location-independent income.

I’m no expert, someone who works there suggests perceived insularity and lack of English. Also, this survey seems to be more about work conditions than general life conditions. It feels pretty different from HK, where I work. Tokyo feels harder to adapt to, tho higher payoff.
