I too don't like this, but is it really super-weird

Serving slow-acting poison that people find it hard to resist eating, claiming you are being kind and generous - how is that (objectively) not super-weird?
-
Do you view free alcohol the same way?
-
Only a little, because I think for many people it's easier to resist, the downsides are well-known, and it has more health benefits. Donuts are a "sweet" spot of harmful + viewed as benign
-
Hmm. I guess it doesn't seem super weird because I never stopped to look at it that way. It still seems like just another one of those things, perhaps bad but not weird. Maybe with time.

They think they're going to die someday. They think that happens to everyone. They might as well die after having eaten donuts.
-
Life for the mortal should still be precious. Even if I knew there was a 200yr cap, I'd want to reach it.
-
I'd want to enjoy it. Hence the donuts.

It cannot be seen as both tempting and not generous. If you were really convinced it was not generous, you would not be tempted.
-
You assume infinite willpower for resisting temptations that we are drawn to bc they we're beneficial in our evolutionary environment. Which is not how real humans work.
-
Further still, it is pretty well known that focus, discipline and will power come from the same "reserves". Ask your team to spend it on doing some work, or fighting "donut smell cloud", your call.
