A belief like this, by an employer, is detrimental to women's careers while not affecting the men on staff. So no, it's not "egalitarian".
It's egalitarian because it is a rule for husband and wife, and it will affect both female employees of men & male employees of women.

You know this is a false equivalency. There are far more men in positions of power, so the impact is disproportionately on women's careers.

There are so many male dominated industries, it'd be impossible for most professional woman to have such a rule and a meaningful career.

Expect you're right where following the rule is costly and supply curves slope up.

Of course it's costly. The opportunity cost is any job where business travel or working late with colleagues is expected.
