The function of large elections is not as a decision-making mechanism, but as a mass ritual to re-affirm the social contract. From this view it makes sense that more participation makes a more powerful ritual.

Election size is irrelevant, voting is still a tool to influence how and by whom one is governed. False narratives about "your vote doesn't matter" and undue hype over national elections do more to erode the institution of voting than any rationally-ignorant citizen could.
