In last day, 2 false & not-yet-retracted claims @ me: @mattyglesias says I say "sexual assault [is] something that contemporary society is irrationally over-invested in punishing", @BetseyStevenson says I'm "critical of Professor Ford for coming forward".

It's natural to be bothered by this, and it can sometimes do some good to fight back. However, the medium of Twitter is very different from academia (& even blogs), such that defense against slurs accomplishes much less good and thus is worth doing much less often.

But if someone makes an accusation and you don't deny it, will others take that as assent to the accusation? Thats pretty common in human history, hard to believe twitter has made the effect disappear.

It's an asymmetric warfare-friendly medium. In the same way old countries might defend against every army (because they can) but not every guerrilla (because they can't), you should substantially adjust your defense here.

Sure, so I focus on responding to most high profile accusations, from the most prestigious others. I should at least make sure to deny those accusations, if they are false. These two accusers meet that standard, I think.

Agreed. I just have been seeing a lot more of these cheap shots taken at you lately, expect it to continue/increase now that you are on the thoughtcrime radar, and don't want you to get bogged down unnecessarily.
