Some would argue that the reason we age is because our cells are programmed to make way for the young. So this archetype of the new toppling the old, and providing its group w/ an evolutionary advantage as a result, is as old as living organisms.
There is something profound to the metaphor of small/nimble/young/clever beating old/slow/big/dumb. It holds for institutions as much or more as individuals.
