Inflation has made it tougher to have a lot of children. Back in the day with a strong dollar wives didn't even have to work.

I would put it on broader economic changes than inflation, but yes, for a variety of reasons (economic, social, spiritual) it is much harder to have a one-working-parent family today. Which should be treated as an existential threat, but isn't.
