Our ancient playbooks from wise desert nomads have no simple rules for avoiding opioid addiction, staying thin in a world where poison is labeled as food, navigating a totally screwed up dating environment. And the poor can't improvise life rules from scratch.
Hence rapid environmental change raises the bar needed to live a good life (from "just follow the old rules" to "comb through the last decade of self-help to find the new rules"). This makes life harder for those who already struggle the most. Brutal.
Meanwhile, the leverage available to those who can adapt has never been greater. Hence, massive inequality.
This is why I cheer for groups like @nofap, @orderofman, and @jordanbpeterson, who are crafting modern rule sets for mass appeal. (Like a cultural food stamp program).

Faster change comes from accumulating capital & technology. Like most things about the world, it is caused by processes, not people.
Naturally, new technology is invented by the cognitive elite. That doesn't mean they're doing it on purpose to cause social disruption. It's a classic unintended consequence.
Life is getting better for everybody. Decades of study aren’t required to benefit from modernity’s advances. Just use modern products and services. Drive a modern car on modern roads to a modern hospital.
