Imagine success is a combination of factors: innate ability, opportunity (ie family wealth, influence), and pure luck. If you decrease variance in any of these (say, equalize opportunity or eliminate luck), then by definition the correlation of ability and success increases.

We are so far from that point that attempts to fix the population genetics are pure wankery. Anything but admit that the doors of opportunity aren't fully open. If there's insufficient genetic mixing (which I don't admit) then wealth-stratified education contributes to the lack.
