“When the boy cried wolf, the village committed Type I and Type II errors, in that order” remains the best hypothesis testing mnemonic.

Is the null "there is no wolf", or is it "there is a wolf"?

If the Type I and Type II errors are as stated by the OP, then "There is no wolf" is the null.

Peeps: the boy cried wolf when there was no wolf and the village believed him (Type I) [and then got tired of false alarms]; the boy cried wolf and there was a wolf and the village did not believe him (Type II). Maybe some folks don't know the story of the boy who cried wolf?

I love the cry wolf one. I reference it in our therapies research induction presentation - talking about the importance of appraising journal articles (yes I have been known to make them act it out 😂)
