Product idea: screenshot, annotation, and sharing of book passages... but for audiobooks

Agreed. I like it better for audiobooks than podcasts since the former are already carefully published. But annotation and sharing on text networks (i.e. Twitter) for this format are broken.

For better or worse, I think that only Audible (i.e., Amazon) has done the hard work of synching books and audiobooks. I think the decision to make the Kindle a closed universe is one of the big missed opportunities.

I do not feel like this is the mechanism, because it is also true of podcasts which produce (at substantial expense / effort) searchable, quotable transcripts, sometimes with timestamps. Data point of one: Podcasts don't feel like A Deliverable to me like writing does.

This lets one do things that might not work like just riff on down a tangent for a while and see what alchemy develops. That can survive as a tangent in written work but the perceived effort of sitting down to do exploratory writing is very, very high.

I don’t think that will last much longer. A lot of podcast shows these days seem to publish a mirror to YouTube.

That being said, it would be nice to have some kind of Snapchat like experience for podcasts so as to prevent quote mining or at least make it more difficult.
