I wish Mastodon supported “this instance” as a privacy scope.

Mastodon is an open source, self-hostable Twitter clone. Since Twitter itself is so beset with outrage and politics these days, have been considering setting up a separate place for the people I know who want something different. I don’t know if it would work.

Mastodon sounds good. What do you mean by “this instance”? And “privacy scope”?

This instance — a particular self-hosted Mastodon server. (It’s federated; a la email, there’s a server-to-server protocol for propagating messages between instances.) Privacy scope: you can set per-“tweet” visibility settings. (Anyone, only followers, etc.)

Interesting, no. I am aware that I appear to just be trying to reinvent The WELL, though... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_WELL
