An unpopular idea that I’m surprised didn’t make that spreadsheet: If you work more hours, you will get more done.

Yeah, all a question of degree, though people certainly took exception to this tweet:https://twitter.com/nathanchubbard/status/942882853494202369 …

Nathan HubbardVerified account @NathanCHubbardWhatever you’re hustling for, take note: most people/companies are shut down until ‘18. That means you get 2 extra weeks to outwork your competition. That’s 3.8% more time. For perspective: Usain Bolt won his gold medals running 1.2% faster. These 2 weeks are a gift. Get to work.Show this thread1 reply 0 retweets 6 likes -

Too busy outpacing the competition!

Lol that was literally the reason I posted this. The weirdest part of this backlash to me - if you don’t want to work like this...don’t? Not sure why people need to be angry at you for how you choose to work.

Well you’re not going to start any good flame wars with an attitude like *that*. How do you possibly stay sane without the stabilizing force of condemning others’ choices?

Scanning the top few dozen replies as ranked by Twitter: 1) Facts re high performance in runners, South Pole expedition 2) Refs to A Christmas Carol, popular/well-loved allegory on exactly this 3) Statements of differing preference 4) Moral judgement re not spending time w/kids

1-3 seem totally reasonable/poignant disagreement. 4 is the only one that goes into "unspeakable" territory (e.g., "don't spend time with your kids during Christmas"). even
@NathanCHubbard walked that back: his reply is he's actually in hawaii with family.1 reply 0 retweets 0 likes

Yup, I think this is the problem. (Almost) each individual reply totally reasonable. Net outcome: https://twitter.com/nathanchubbard/status/943079619032436736 …. Nathan can, obviously, handle it, but how many people just
and don’t bother? All basically just Coda’s fan-in issue. https://codahale.com/fan-in/

I’m still struggling with whether or not I think this is a real problem. I know that when people I respect flame me on twitter, it puts me in a bad mood, but I get over it. Maybe it’s incumbent on privileged folks to engage rather than
in the face of backlash.3 replies 0 retweets 0 likes -
I think the backlash is against perpetuating that mindset. That guy can work as much as he wants, but the tweet is about how you need to do that in order to succeed, that's what people are reacting to. Also, how is this coming from "Pivotal Labs" Lee? Man, SF has changed you ;)
