Feels like a lot of online activity is migrating to private groups. Just me? And is it because groups are rising or public commons less fun?

To extent commons is waning (and replies to tweet are interesting), feels unfortunate. Public discussion creates so many spillover benefits.

This was why I loved IRC and Second Life. No default friend groups, met people over common interests, and formed lasting relationships. Current social services are just my Facebook graph copied from place to place :(

Yeah, that's an interesting point. Hadn't thought about portable friend groups actually being a bug, not a feature. Maybe the blank post-onboarding screen is actually a good thing...
