As @thegdb pointed out, the economic incentives should be tied to Kolmogorov complexity.
@segiddins I think it's obviously true that they're related. (If you 5x-ed the length, wouldn't learning be slower?) Now run that backwards.

@segiddins I agree that there'll be both local and global minima. But my contention is that most books are way above them. -
