When an expert in a field says that something is strange or puzzling, it's worth paying a lot of attention to. You could probably write an interesting book by talking to experts in different fields and asking them what they'd noticed that seemed strange.

Yeah, these WP pages are a bit too desiccated for my liking — lacking in color and context — but directionally great.

How many people in payments would’ve said ‘we really need an easier way to integrate payments into our website’?

Everyone. That was a huge pain in the bum until about 2010-2011.

I think this could be reasonably put together from the most recent set of literature reviews for a field+then getting finer details by having experts review that doc.

I feel like basically every field needs the equivalent of the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy (https://plato.stanford.edu/ ). It allows you to quickly get up to up to speed on a subtopic, get a sense of what the open questions and puzzles are, and go to the relevant resources.

But if you couldn't identify the experts, then it might be hard to market such a book, or at least hard to explain it's importance to potential purchasers.
