I get the idea, but wow, there are a lot of things that could be bad ecosystem-wise and geomorphological for this. Olivine sand and carbonate sands are wildly different.
It may or may not work well for many reasons... as you probably know, there's an extensive literature here arguing that it could; we just want to help figure out whether or not it actually does.
