Would be interesting if Twitter had a way to mute or reduce feed prominence for accounts that like particular tweets. As a reader, it would make it much easier to dial down the otherwise-overexpressed outrage resonant mode.

Twitter is simultaneously a discussion in the lounge and a brawl in the adjoining bar. Would be great if you could close the door.

Amazing idea that I'd love to see implemented. Nothing stopping you from doing this client-side via the API... in theory at least. I don't know where Twitter is in their "we love third-party clients!" vs. "we're not optimizing for that quadrant of the chart" oscillations though.

they shut off most third party clients and even cut off access to developers writing their client libraries, so....

I bet this is something that is much easier to algorithmically spot than it would seem, but that it’s really tough to get the feature prioritized because it is designed to reduce engagement. (Why easy? Because you can free ride on X00k human raters with great nose for it.)

I think the issue with this feature would be the SEO like micro optimization that people will engage in to mold themselves into like patterns that will get their tweets max exposure

Click on the star on the top right and select "Latest Tweets" to get a chronological timeline. I've tested this multiple times and there is far less outrage on that timeline.

I wonder if this has to do with engagement models assuming any engagement (i.e. detail expand) is "positive".

My big hope for @bluesky is that we start to see an ecosystem of feed algorithms emerge. Twitter Lists are a crude start. I want to see different lenses on the world. The feed must be freed.
