This is great, and congrats to Microsoft. But: for announcements of this type, I wonder how compliance ought to be tracked. It will be easy for companies (and countries) to generate some good publicity, but then not make the changes needed.https://twitter.com/jmanooch/status/1217876379485818880 …

Yes, that would great! Similarly: I believe the count of countries committed to carbon neutrality by 2050 stands at about 60. Interesting to think about good accountability mechanisms to prevent political theatre.

One interesting suggestion that I've heard is to have the government(s) issue a bond which pays out depending on how badly the government misses its target. e.g. if the government misses its target by 5%, the bond pays a 5% yield, etc. Have this determined by an independent body.

(Suspect a number of companies would be interested in funding this if anyone is working on it.)

B-corp ratings exist, but agree some site that goes deeper/has accountability would be cool

Curious: what additional mechanisms does a B-corp have to commit to carbon neutrality?

Unfortunately we don’t even do a good job of holding our politicians to their promises. Though, polimeter is trying... here’s

IMHO better would be an upgrade in formal reporting. MSFT listing first on
@ericries Long Term Stock Exchange would be epic. As@michael_nielsen knows (from his recent climate research!) carbon offset has wobbly baselines, so even explicit voluntary reporting can have probs.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
