It seems surprising that we don't have more prominent economic indicators that focus on the migration of the most talented young people.

This seems sufficient. Trying to think of any additional data that wouldn't just be marginally more informative. (obviously depends on quibbling about definition of inventor, but assuming it's directionally correct, this seems sufficient)

yes this is good. I was reacting to the "young" qualifier in particular. For example how would we have known to count you and John? I suppose one answer is that at some degree of steady state, if you have an answer that works looking backward (eg your patent example) it suffices.

This is also not an exact indicator of "talent" but is a pretty good indicator of what neighborhoods result in more social mobility when you move to them or from them.https://www.opportunityatlas.org/

GitHub could tell us when prolific coders move physical location.

Haha. True—kind of amazing how the notion of privacy has eroded when this isn’t prefaced by…”if we got approval”

Beautiful chart. I wonder what it looks like when it's normalized by population size. My rough math moves Switzerland and Singapore to first and second.

Would then also have to cancel out any movement within Europe or then show the movement between all the 50 US states.

This is great. Do you have this updated to present day please? Because Indian startups are getting really hot & good. There seems to be small but growing migration of Indian Origin people back to India.

You could use an indirect measurement like Kauffman Foundation's avg # of jobs created by startups in their first year by state (normalized for pop).https://indicators.kauffman.org/data-table
