PHP was a lot of fun. Easy to deploy and easy to debug.https://twitter.com/jacobian/status/1163453179499089921 …

I'm not ashamed to admit that sometimes I miss PHP. Over 20 years later, and still nobody's even come _close_ to PHP's ease of deployment. This tweet brought to you by the 3 programming languages and 5 Docker images I need just to run one app.

PHP, the Arctic Monkeys of programming languages. Nostalgic teenage memories, great fun while it lasted.

@jacobian Slack’s post on this is great. Perhaps one could copy these advantages into JS somehow. React/JSX is partially there in terms of bundling things together.https://twitter.com/balajis/status/1163512170631446528?s=21 …

PHP was also insanely fast. Some frameworks tended (zended?) to make it slow and ruined its reputation

I created this 2 years ago: https://github.com/weprovide/valet-plus … It's still being used by most of the Magento community apparently 😁 It's a fork of @adamwathan's work on Laravel Valet with a bunch of additions to make it faster (but opinionated)

Was? It’s still alive and well–Laravel’s development flow has turned it into a modern, Ruby-esque (but better) setup that really helps with developer productivity. Seems to be seeing a renaissance!https://char.gd/blog/2019/you-dont-need-that-hipster-web-framework …

I suspect FB proved the world wrong on PHP and basically tackled every question thrown at PHP (of course through a lot of improvements - HHVM, etc)
