Super cool. I read a suggestion the other day that using clean electricity to turn CO2 into jet fuel in a manner similar to sequestration could enable the aviation industry to go carbon neutral. No idea if it's possible, but I really want net-zero without giving up air travel

Congrats. You should support new technology but you need to take another look at forestry. Buy some land and plant trees. This will also create rural economic activity. Verification is not difficult with
@Treemetrics -
Humanity needs wood for shelter and heat. Concrete contributs 8% of the planets carbon emissions. We can use more wood in construction to lock up the carbon and create more sustainable product. Take a look at your offices, probably concrete!

Great solution for short term. I like the idea of buying up land and planting trees (that are maintained/looked after) on it that will naturally transmute the carbon in the atmosphere http://target2030.org - is Stripe also going to look into planting trees?

Next step: up-cycle it w/ @Opus12CO2 -
@patrickc I'm the CoS at@Opus12CO2 -- just sent your enviro team a message so we can talk about recycling that air captured CO2 into materials/fuels that are conventionally produced from petroleum. Get the dual benefit of drawing down CO2 and displacing oil as a feedstock. -
This is suboptimal compared to sequestration

Have you seen
@Indigoag ‘s terraton initiative by chance? Don’t have the background to assess it, but the goal is to move 1 trillion tons of Co2 into ag soils -

@coolearth is doing effective work in protecting rainforests for $1,34 per tonne of CO2. “Cool Earth is the most cost-effective charity we have identified to date which works on mitigating climate change through direct action”https://www.givingwhatwecan.org/report/cool-earth/ … -
I like Cool Earth, but I think there is some recent doubt on whether that article is accurate on cost effectiveness.https://forum.effectivealtruism.org/posts/RnmZ62kuuC8XzeTBq/why-we-have-over-rated-cool-earth …

Agree that it needs an official estimation and update. Probably still one of the most effective. Do you know orgs and solutions that are more cost effective?
-
I don’t, but I’d love to see more research into this topic. I think climate is a risk area that EA under values due to a lack of clear options.
