I haven't said much in the past about @Stripe's board. We're fortunate to add Diane Greene, our fourth outside director today. (All four have to put up with myself and John, for six in total.)

The first to join, way back in 2011, was Michael Moritz. Mike is one of the world's all-time great VCs. Google, Yahoo!, YouTube, Sequoia… his Wikipedia article speaks for itself: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Moritz ….

Second, Michelle Wilson. Michelle was General Counsel at Amazon for more than a decade, with the company growing several orders of magnitude during her tenure.

Third, Jonathan Chadwick. Jonathan is a CFO's CFO. He helped build VMWare, Cisco, and others, over a long career in companies that take discipline seriously.

They're now joined by Diane Greene. @bhorowitz famously summed her up as a "god level CEO". As founder of VMWare, she helped usher in the cloud revolution, which she then returned to as CEO of Google Cloud.https://twitter.com/bhorowitz/status/883767445953028096 …

In my era, Diane Greene was the best enterprise CEO male or female. She built the best team, product, and channel strategy. God level CEO.

We're building Stripe for the long-term. We're lucky to do so alongside a roster of detail-oriented directors who think that infrastructure revolutions can compound for decades and that operational excellence can be a surprisingly durable competitive advantage.

Interesting. Have you read “What is Strategy” by Michael Porter? He says op. excellence is *not* a sustainable competitive advantage.

Sooner rather than later, you should add a board member OUTSIDE of Silicon Valley Hi Tech. Specifically, someone well versed in complexities of institutional innovation at intersection of finance, value networks, and digital civil liberties (security, privacy, regulation, ...)

As a case study in what *not* to do, consider the history of Facebook's Board of Directors. From 2006 onward, the Board failed to provide adequate guidance and governance re: privacy & value networks. To this day: no Risk Committee. Also, blame the dual-class Common Stock.

In 2006 - 2018 Facebook grew to become a dominant transnational non-governmental organization/community. During this time it has NEVER had a Board Member whose expertise has been in sociology, norms, ethics, governance, civil liberties, privacy, etc.
