Really sad to hear that Dr Ian Gibson has died. He was a selfless public servant, a great champion for Norfolk - smart, witty, principled. He was also a rare person - a Labour politician who grasped the importance of the environment.

A "relief" road that will destroy this magnificent old oak?We have to save our society from making these mistakes, which stem from greed and myopia.

Another book recommendation (especially if you have children aged 8 to 11). I loved reading this new graphic novel and so did Milly and Esme (aged 9). Moving, totally believable modern fairytale.

This is a brilliant book. We're overwhelmed by words but these are short, true, moving and urgent. Jay Griffiths is an amazing writer. She is also incapable of being boring!

It may not be the most attractive of fish to all, but we are more than a bit smitten for the burbot, a recently lost native UK freshwater fish species. What’s more, after 6 years of work, we have moved one step closer to bringing back this fish to Norfolk’s fenland rivers! 😍

Short thread on compost, peat extraction, our gardens, OUR power, climate & wildlife. Many more of us are gardening (good!) Peat is depleting at a terrifying rate & there are consequences (bad). Excellent piece A voluntary ban has failed. 1/5

'Make a memory': campaigners fear revised Countryside Code lacks bite The new Countryside Code is hopelessly confused on use of disposable BBQs - this means more devastating fires like the Wareham Heath one last year.

Big issue this spring/summer – please keep your dog on a lead so they don't disturb nesting birds. (You can tell from the look on Betty's face in this video that she wants to get her paws on one of the blackbirds singing so beautifully in the background.)
