"I Thought I Could Help My Last Mentee — But I Was Wrong" describes the frustration of a mentor as the young boy he tried to help descended into drugs and crime. All his efforts were for naught. We can't save every one. But we have to keep trying.

Drug OD Deaths Fell For 1st Time in 28 Years in 2018; the 1st drop since the opioid epidemic began in the 1990s. Yet, 2018 is still 2nd worst year for overdose deaths in U.S., and remains more than 3 times the rate in 1999.

Van Jones made the First Step Act possible by setting aside differences w/ Pres Trump in order to help reunite inmates w/ their families. Some reformers attacked Van b/c the bill isn’t perfect. If they had their way thousands on families would remain separated by bars. Kudos, Van

Two Super Bowls ago I was sitting in a prison cell. Today I am a free woman and my story was featured in a Super Bowl Ad. I will spend the rest of my life fighting for the wrongly and unjustly convicted! God Bless America!

I have worked 20 yrs for CJ reform. Trump Super Bowl Ad hits the nail on the head. “Politicians talk about criminal justice reform, President Trump got it done. Thousands of families are being reunited.” The FSA would have died w/o

"A Cancer Patient Stole Groceries Worth $109.63. She Was Sentenced to 10 Months." Unbelievably cruel sentence. Another example of filling costly prison beds with people we are mad at, rather than afraid of.

Pregnant and shackled: why inmates are still giving birth cuffed and bound. ACUF has made a priority of ending this barbaric practice in state prisons and local jails.

A company extends a hand to those with criminal pasts - and more. Nehemiah Manufacturing provides work opportunities for ex-offenders, and it also offers individuals the services they need to make the difficult transition from prison to the community.

Illinois ends stupid policy that suspended drivers' licenses for those who could not afford to pay huge fees for non-moving violations, e.g. parking. That policy caused much harm; 42% of those who had their licenses suspended lost their jobs.

Conservative officials & their consultants must recognize that criminal justice reform is popular w/ voters Left and Right. This analysis of the votes for La's governor shows when Republicans refuse to address the flaws in the CJ system they lose votes.

Ohio's SB 3 gets tough on drug traffickers, while offering help for drug users. It puts the focus where it belongs: those who bring large quantities of drugs into our communities, rather than mere drug users. ACUF strongly supports this good legislation.

John Stossel points out the absurdity of govt claims they try to help ex-offenders find work. Yet, many states deny occupational licenses to for ex-offenders. An Irish friend of mine used to say, "They're filling our mouths with an empty spoon."
