I believe there are also cases of “the website is closed overnight” due to govt regulations that mandate a human needs to be available to assist people and they don’t want to staff up for 24/7 support. At least that’s what I’ve been told.

I believe in some cases it’s due to not wanting to/not being permitted to pay the necessary overtime for a public union employee should something blow up and they need to get paged at 4am to do incident response.

We retired a govt mainframe in the last 6 months. Look at them funny and they may blow up. The federal govt doesn’t have enough money to modernize all of their undocumented systems.
