Message I got a couple days ago: “Hey Austen, I have three companies wanting to interview me in New York; I arranged them so they’re back to back, I’m just trying to scrape the funds together to buy a flight and hotel...” People that are new to tech aren’t used to comped travel

Blizzard did something I liked here, they sent a prepaid Visa card for meals etc per diem (and paid for Hotel/fight directly)

That’s such a great idea. Thanks for sharing.

I wonder if injecting a 3rd party can fix this. Company registers for service, applicant checks with service to see if company participates, submits request, service confirms with company, arranges travel, fronts costs, invoices company at a marketable premium.

They'd estimate 1 to 3 weeks but in reality it would be more like 1 to 3 months.

Especially since (speaking from experience) sometimes it's actually 95 days.

(this is, BTW, how I decided I didn't want to work for one particular large company. They made me pay my own way to an interview (over $1000) and then didn't reimburse me for three months)
