Chicagoans of a certain age know this to be true. It's tough to imagine but Sears was once the Amazon of its day. The difference between Sears and Amazon is that Amazon always knows exactly what it's doing after it finishes its current project, and has a very good idea of what it wants to do after that one. It's easy to lose your way without long range thinking.
