A really common genre of email I get asks for permission to try something. The eternal student in me understands the impulse, while greatly regretting that we inculcate it. You don’t need anyone’s permission to try writing software / running a business. Build something. Sell it.

I do not say that to be discouraging; I say it so that you can spend one hour, just one hour, on talking to actual customers and outperform the counterfactual of talking to non-customers for 200 days.
