how important is it to you as a talk attendee that the speaker introduce who they are? what if they just jump into the material? what do you want them to say in their intro slide?

With a mixed speaker/attendee hat on, I think the slide should generally include institutional affiliation, a brief precis of professional relation to the topic of the talk, and (if at all possible) explicit permission to talk to speaker. ("We're hiring; come talk to me." works.)

This is why I have my twitter handle as the footer in all of my slides, as a plus, people will react realtime to your talk, so you get to see which points landed well.
