It’s the best time in the history of ever to be a technologist. There are many good teams, good orgs, and good bosses out there. If you don’t have one then Beyoncé Option the heck out of your situation. Exit is easier to arrange than voice in our environment. Or own the company.

The exception to the rule is organizations you believe to be important and irreplaceable. I feel for folks who work for governments or churches and genuinely care about the mission. But for-profit software companies? Let capitalism be a garbage collector for you.

I believe it’s about finding the right fit within a company...relatively few companies are intrinsically toxic to all people. Some people excel under stress and pressure, some crack. Some need little guidance to find areas where they can contribute, some need lots of structure.
