That equation is sort of stylized and has some simplifying assumptions, because all models are wrong but some models are useful. One which is certainly wrong: it assumes that churn is a continuous product. In low-touch SaaS as it is actually practiced, churn happens early.

What does "functions supporting you" mean? Is it literally software functions used for day to day tasks?

If you work on the sales team, you are supported by e.g. marketing, engineering, customer support, etc. You cannot *just* do the best job possible in sales and carry the company on your shoulders; you need good leads, good followthrough with sold accounts, etc.
