A concrete thing: if I'm ever reading a coworker's work and think to myself "Ooh, that is clever" or "Oh that worked a lot better than I would have expected", I try to make it a point to tell them that. For junior colleagues, I make extra effort to do so publicly.

Yes! Especially with performance appraisals: they’re almost like another interview in terms of stress levels and mental impact. If you give the wrong impression, performance and job satisfaction will suffer.
