Paraphrasing a conversation I most recently had on HN but have with engineers a lot. "Does cold email work?" "... Does caching work?" "Yes, of course caching works." "So caching works all the time?" "No, of course not." "Then how do you know that it works?" "... What?"

(And yeah, if you are absolutely opposed to caching for whatever reason, you can have a great career and never touch it once. You're going to have to make some choices and pay some prices, much like refusing to implement any obviously widely useful technology, but it is doable.)

can you throw in some examples of good cold emails ?

I don't usually publish the contents of my inbox but sometimes people who send me things tweet them some years later, like here: https://twitter.com/patrickc/status/774309309874221056 … That is a pretty good pitch. Immediately establishes common interest, makes a clearly compelling offer.

Who are some good practitioners/teachers of cold email techniques? I can find (good! useful!) caching case studies all day long. When I look for cold outreach info, I find wall to wall spam and charlatans touting their ONE TRUE METHOD TO GET RICH QUICK.

So the advice for overcoming ethical hesitations about outreach is... "Get over it"?
