I am reading The Phoenix Project after a recommendation on Twitter and I have never before realized how much I want to read about fictitious project management meetings. I kid you not, it is riveting. It's neither the best possible fiction nor the best possible fable but...

... it turns out that all the years of reading about dragons and political intrigues in worlds where bat guano reliably turns into fireballs makes me very, very much want to read about the Director of Security backstabbing Operations to curry favor with the CEO.

(It's a fable because it tries to teach you about modern management techniques in software. If you know what WIP stands for, you will find the insights fairly pedestrian... but you've never heard them in the context of a botched upgrade keeping POV character from dinner right.)

This book has been very insightful to me, even though I'm neither in a Management position nor do I have such an organizational overhead currently. Nevertheless, it opened my eyes to a lot of potential problems and conflicts which have never occured to me before.

I have really enjoyed Goldratt‘s books. The Goal being the first. Reasonably well written and while I don‘t take all of it at face value, I have learned a lot from each of his books.

I feel like there are a couple others in this genre I've read. THE MARTIAN, MICROSERFS, ... *waves hands* Something like that.

Is this one in the same genre as “The Goal”?

I love that there's a "the Dude" type guru who would obviously be played by Jeff Bridges.
