Periodic notes from technology with a 3 year old: Alexa is an interface she intuitively “got.” Transparently more than an interface to her. She figured out swiping recently. She has not figured out that MacBooks do not support swiping and is still confused by why I’d use one.

“Daddy ‘puter is broken.” “Really?” *swipe swipe swipe* “Really really!” “The computer is for typing.” “Typing broken too!”

I want to reiterate that the iPad with large bumper case is a near optimal kid computer experience. So many great play and learn apps. Start by purchasing the entire Toca Boca app catalog.. trust me on this!

Huge bumpers and screen protector are key. I can vouch that iPads work well as frisbees for only a few throws.

+1 on swiping a MacBook. Amazing how quickly they pick things up. At 2 years old my son was skipping the ads on YouTube.

Note from a 7-yr-old: Every night before getting dressed for bed she goes into my office to ask "Google" (our Home device) what the temperature is the next day. But she has no context for what the numbers mean. Doesn't stop her. (I'm thinking of making a chart. Or Home action.)

I notice the same behaviors in my 3 year old. What’s more interesting to me is how they perceive AI. As they grow up interacting with (and observe us interacting with) AI, they will have an entirely different perspective, reaction, experience and opinion than we will.
