Advantage in business is measured by the degree of difference between you and your surrounding environment. There’s a chemistry/biological term I’m forgetting for this; osmotic pressure, maybe?
Simple heuristic but works.
Liberal US metropolises are defined by lack of homogeneity in the same sense that the soap aisle is defined by a lack of homogeneity: you can find jugs made in every shape, size, and color, rack upon rack of glorious soap for those times when you need, exactly, soap.
