Ideally, you get a pretty good understanding of how your target organization makes decisions, who can say Yes, who they listen to, and what steps / gates they need to go through between "We're considering" and "Yes." It can be useful to cultivate internal allies/influence.

But, in your cultivation of internal allies/influence, you do not ask them "Hey are you in favor of this thing that you can only possible say No to?" Pricing is one of those things. I love line engineers. I never have and never will ask one to approve my company's rates.
