“Why do we spend so much time and effort on frivolities?” Because we have time and effort to spare, having slurped up many (but not all!) of the ways to turn relatively small amounts of effort into huge gains in the human experience.

And also more fragile than it has ever been? Whether it's undersea cables or mass migration or CRISPR bioweapons or just-in-time food distrib or monoculture/patented crops or 2m sea level rise ..., all this progress seems to rest on eggshells. Not at all inevitable that it lasts.

Is awesome crispr body mods.... But in a human context, I agree, it's is all relative. I remember calling into a radio show years ago to explain I have no problem with the gmo crops, but issue is I don't want 70% of the crops to be the win95 of crops.

Two extinction events, looming refugee crisis, largest incarceration rates in the world, extend inequality, stagnant real wages, etc. Not sure how germane more potent dosages are compared to these.
