"So it's a used book store." It's a used book store with no expensive retail location, the world's best demand aggregator as a front-end, real-time data-driven pricing based on inventories/historical demand, and ~90% utilization of employees as opposed to 20%.

This solves an actual problem for me since the closest Book Off (the dominant secondhand book chain in Japan) closed (since the rent was untenable in this neighborhood; ~$30k a month) and since, by policy, they don't buy foreign-language books.

A bookstore has to make a judgment call on whether to take on inventory risk for e.g. relatively obscure paranormal romance novels in English but these folks just have to scan the ISBN, after which a computer says "I'll make you a market: buying at 160 yen, selling at 410."

I think all they really need it for is getting your email, name, and shipping address without forcing you to type it all in, but still, was fairly slick. Though I had to do manual data entry because they're required to KYC people and Amazon has a name which wouldn't pass muster.

Unfortunately, this is also all Amazon Login does. (Just checked because I misread your tweet, thought it would also get access to your order/book history which would be super powerful for other stuff) Still cool of course.

Interesting to see the Japanese innovation when it comes to books. I know a patent lawyer who orders old books from Amazon for prior art research and drop ships them to
@1dollarscan, who scans them and deliver her a searchable PDF.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
