This advice cross-applies to interest in employing you, interest in doing a consulting engagement, interest in acquiring your company, interest in buying your product, interest in buying your house, etc. A negotiation which hasn't advanced to a written offer isn't a deal.https://twitter.com/BrianKeene/status/951273104403320832 …

This seems in the same vein as “how much are you making now?” Or “how many other offers do you have?” in salary negotiation. Not your job and maybe not in your best interest to answer.

I prefer to confirm someone else is interested without disclosing who it is. Ramps up their urgency without giving them an advantage

“Thanks for working with me on this. I am considering a couple opportunities right now, and just want to make the best decision for my family and myself.” (Swiped from salary negotiation scripts, but would work for book negotiations as well.)
